I'm not sure if this is exactly the right place for this question, or not, but if it isn't, please let me know the proper board for it ...
We are trying to troubleshoot an issue and found that load averages on the server appear to be very high. For example:
load averages: 117.2, 116.1, 100.4; up 25+08:15:47 08:51:36
387 processes: 381 sleeping, 6 on cpu
CPU states: 51.0% idle, 4.4% user, 44.6% kernel, 0.0% iowait, 0.0% swap
Memory: 511G phys mem, 12G free mem, 638G total swap, 564G free swap
I was told that this is normal, because the physical server had many virtual processors, like so:
The physical processor has 128 virtual processors (0-127)
SPARC-T5 (chipid 0, clock 3600 MHz)
The physical processor has 128 virtual processors (128-255)
SPARC-T5 (chipid 1, clock 3600 MHz)
So, they are telling me that there are 255 virtual processors and current CPU utilization is normal. Is that an accurate statement in this case?
Note: I am not sure about how this server is virtualized or other such infrastructure details (as I am only a humble DBA ). But, I can find out additional details if it will help clarify the discussion.
