linux user password complexity

Does anyone know of a way to "dumb down" the password complexity verification? I'm building several Linux boxes under VMPlayer on my laptop. These are purely sandbox machines and totally isolated from the world outside of my laptop. Since there is no security concern, I'd like to be able to use less complex passwords.

Besides just learning more about how password complexity is controlled in linux and what options are available to control the rules.
