Linux and connection through firewall

Can someone please help me to resolve my connecting problem . I need to establish connection to 9.2.0.6 Oracle database on RedHat Linux server over the Internet. LAN connection is not problem, but trying to connect over Internet makes TNS-12535 error (there is opened 1521 port). I have red many articles wich mention USE_SHARED_SOCKET on Win server platforms, but I have not found any article wich describes steps to allow same kind of connectivity on Linux platforms.
