LGWR: terminating instance due to error 204

Hi,

I was running some batch process on Oracle 8.1.7 on windows XP OS. After running for a while like 3 hrs
my oracle instance crashed giving me error in alert log file as .

LGWR: terminating instance due to error 204
Instance terminated by LGWR, pid = 1028

Therafter i tried to restart the database but i get erroe as ORA:03113 End of communication file.
When I see the alter log file it says

" Rolling back half complete log switch of thread 1
LGWR: terminating instance due to error 204
Instance terminated by LGWR, pid = 2608

Could anyone please help me out in solving this problem ?
I would be grateful.
