LDAP and npasswd

Anyone using npasswd along with LDAP?? I have npasswd running fine but when installed on an LDAP client I get the following error:

cookehh@yamato:[6] passwd
passwd: Cannot get your user information.

cookehh@yamato:[7] passwd cookehh
passwd: No such user cookehh
cookehh@yamato:[8] passwd -r ldap
passwd: Unknown service selector 'ldap'

Any ideas?
