kudzu segfaulting on boot (and manual run) - OL5.8 on Oracle VM 2.2.2

Has anyone come across this issue before?

kudzu is segfaulting on boot, and also segfaults if I try running the following command manually.
service kudzu start

The machine is an Oracle Linux 5.8 32-bit guest with all the latest updates installed (did a yum update from our local mirror of the ULN repository to make sure that it wasn't fixed in a subsequent update), running as a PV guest on Oracle VM 2.2.2.
