JtextFiled unEditable color

Is there a way to set the color of the text field so that if it is not editable it will be shown?
I dont want to change the backgroung when i set editable...because the background can change and i will have to keep the old background color for each text field....
Is there a better way to control this color?
It is hardly noticeable that the textfield is not editable....
