JSF vs. traditional J2EE (JSP/Servlets)

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question...

When JSF was first presented years ago, I was very excited about it. I learned how to use the first little piece of it, but then really never came back to it. I guess my question is:

1) Given someone is very proficient at standard J2EE from a JSP/JSTL/Servlet/Custom Tag perspective, how difficult is JSF to pick up these days...
2) What benefits over standard J2EE (as mentioned above) do you experience?
3) Are there particular types of projects that lend themselves more to JSF than others and if so what are they?

I;m just trying to figure out if it's worth the time to really delve into JSF. I've got quite a large library of JSP custom tags that I've developed over the years that make my web application development much faster than it used to be for rather rich interfaces.
