All,
since I upgraded my PC to Windows 10, I cannot update Java on my PC.
Not only: I just cannot even install JRE/JDK 1.8 from scratch!
The regular JRE/JDK installers (both on-line and off-line) silently fail without any error being shown.
So I have tried the MSI installers found available from the Oracle support site (aka "MSI enterprise" installers), but unfortunately to no benefit.
Also the MSI installers fail. Please not that I have already tried the usual would-be-fixes recommended in such cases (SFC /scannow, unregister and re-register MSIEXEC, check that Windows Installer service is okay, purge this and that, ....) - but nothing worked in the least.
I therefore enabled Windows Installer logging, by adding the necessary registry key, and obtained the log attached to this post.
I find nothing useful in it, but I am no expert of MSIEXEC internals, so I may just be overlooking the useful info in this log.
However, I can still install older JRE/JDK versions without any problem (e.g. JRE/JDK 1.7).
Anybody willing to give me a hand solving this absurd problem?
I have a Dell Latitude notebook, with Windows 10 (64bit).
Everything else works fine, more or less.
I have plenty apps on my PC, and I add some new ones quite frequently....
Never had such a problem before, in many years.
Please help.
TIA
Adriano
