JRE 7_55 - Win 7 Pro - IE11. Will not run the verify Java applet

JRE 7_55 on Win 7 Pro with IE 11.

I'm trying to sort out why, after a fresh install of 7_55, I cannot get the Verify Java applet to show the version.  Along with other elements on the verify page I do get a box that says, "The page requires Java...."  And an "OK" to dismiss.  But I never get the version number to show.

If this is an IE settings issue to get IE to "mate up" with Java, would someone mind helping me determine what Internet Options need to be on/off in order for the Verify Java applet to correctly show/state the current version.  After some searching, I found some people using a Compatibility Mode property setting on JAVAWS and JP2LAUNCHER executables.  Unfortunately, on our systems, the Compatibility Mode setting for "WindowsNT" does not exist in that panel.  It only goes down to Windows Vista.

Due to production requirements, I cannot move beyond 7_55.  Yes, we know about the security implications but HQ says our web apps will not work correctly.  And even more hellish, the tech support people at HQ say I've got to ensure 7_55 "verifies" (and prove it) before they'll even talk to me about other web app issues.  So, I'm pretty much stuck at this point.  I have uninstalled Java from Windows Control Panel.  After a fresh install of 7_55, I uninstalled it again, this time using RevoUninstaller (which purportedly does a much more thorough scan of the system to pick off any remaining bits.  I went to ProgFiles > Java >javacpl and told it to delete all temp files.

So, please someone give me a hand with this Verify Java thing.

Note:  This forum has the appearance of being developer focused.  I'd ask that if I'm in the wrong forum, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks.
