JRE 1.5.0.90 between BES 4.1.3 and APC PNS 2.2.1

Hi,

I have a Windows 2003 server onto which I first install Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) 4.1.3, which installed JRE 1.5.0.90. A few months later, I installed APC PowerChute Network Shutdown (PNS) software 2.2.1. PNS, absent pre-existing JRE, will install JRE 1.4.2, but if there is an existing JRE, will simply use that. So, PNS, in this case, simply is using the JRE 1.5.0.90 that BES installed. Anyhow, the subsequent server reboots result in extreme long time (around 60 minutes at the "Applying computer settings..." screen, then takes extremely long time to get to the server desktop after the admin's credentials are put in to login. Plus, Remote Desktop (RDP) login does not work. And, the server takes just as long to log out or to shutdown. Meanwhile, both BES & PNS work fine, as well as user services off of the server (users can map drives to this server, the Exchange on this server works fine, etc).

Intersetingly, disabling BES services results in everything being normal (fast reboots, RDP works, etc), and disabling PNS service also results in everything being normal. Enabling both services results again in extreme slow bootups, logins & shutdowns of the server.

As expected, both RIM (BES) tech support & APC (PNS) tech support has a clue. I'm desperate, as I don't know much about Java/JRE. Anybody out there has seen something like this and/or have any inputs?

Thanks,
Randall
