JInitiator 1.1.8.16

I'm trying to access my data base and application server at work. I'm using linux 9.0. I can not connect to the system for some reason. I see that other window machines have the JInitiator 1.1.8.16 on them. Apparently, this is some sort of Java script. How do I download this java and is it usable on a linux box? What else could I possibly be missing on my machine? Linux comes with Apache and PNP already installed. Any help or direction would be great.
