JDK Version - Able to use OpenJDK?

Daniel FoxSep 30 2025 — edited Sep 30 2025

We are having an issue from our corporate security team where the JDK that is imbedded with the Oracle Extension is being blocked as “unapproved” causing the extension to crash. We are working with our security team to get the extension unblocked so that we can resume use.

One question that is coming up is that we already have OpenJDK versions installed, can the extension be pointed to use that JDK as opposed to the embedded JDK from Oracle? I understand there would have to be a version match (like 21.x or newer).

Additionally, if we are to use the embedded JDK provided, can you let us know the cost implications? Our IT team is concerned given that Oracle JDK has licensing costs associated with it typically.
