JDK 1.4.1_01 Installation Fails (ikernel.exe)

On WinXP SP1, IE6 SP1, the installation of the JDK fails with an IKernel.exe - Application Error message:

The instruction at [...] referenced memory at [...]. The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

When I compile and execute from the command line, the class appears to function properly.

Any ideas as to what causes this? Should I ignore the error message?
