Jdeveloper exits while starting in Ubuntu 12.04

Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, JDeveloper 11.1.2.3, Java 7u13

I have a VBox running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have installed JDev 11.1.2.3 and 7u13 Jdk.
The jdk is registered in the alternatives.

When I start the Jdev it exits while trying to get to the editor (so it seems). If I restart - it will typically work.
If the JDev does not have a project on open (No default project) it will open OK - then when opening the application - it tries to open the editor - and exits.
Again - If I restart - it will normally be OK.

Any suggestions? It is a vanilla install. 11.1.1.6 seems to behave OK.

I have done (keep) my system updated - maybe I need to reinstall the software - the kernel was updated recently.
