Java won't install on Windows 10

3067688Nov 7 2015 — edited May 10 2016

Tried to update Java when notified (to version 8 update 65), and after running the updater as administrator, it just stops running with no error messages or anything. I then uninstalled java altogether from the control panel, then tried reinstalling from http://www.java.com/en/download.manual.jsp#win, trying both the online updater and the windows offline (and I tried both 32 and 64-bit versions.)  No luck.

I then tried a program called JavaRa-2.6 which supposedly removed 25 registry entries for a complete uninstall, but Jave still won't install.

I tried rolling back the system to 3 different restore points, no luck. I had it do a repair of all system files (none were bad), and that still didn't fix the problem.

Does Oracle have any ideas on how to fix this?  (Besides rolling back to Windows 7!)

thanks for any ideas..
