Java, VMWare and 64 bit virtual Servers

Greetings!

I am fairly new at java and have had a few projects land at my feet lately, one of which is trying to figure out some Oracle issues on a VM Ware server.
Now, this isn't a question about Oracle (so breathe easy), but Java on a 64-bit VMWare server. The only reason I bring up Oracle in this, is that the new updater (opatch) is java based.

Basically is this: Any app I attempt to run comes up with an "Unable to locate Java" error message.

I have loaded the latest JDK, wrote a simple "helloworld" app (double checked it on my PC and it works fine), but I still recieve that error.

A little hardware/basic info: Server 2003 64 bit, VMWare server running on an HP DL585 G2 server.

Now, I have a feeling it's a configuration issue of some sort, but I'll be damned if i can figure out what.

Any advice would be nice!!
