java virtual machine launcher error during 10g installation

hi
i am trying to install 10g database on a windows server 2003 environment

i am facing several problems
1. during the beginning of the installation . i am getting a number of error messages stating that the IP address of the host cannot be determined
2. During the installation process for the database configuration assistant the following message appears that causes the installation of DBCA to fail
"FATAL EXCEPTION OCCURRED . PROGRAM WILL EXIT"the header of the window "JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE LAUNCHER"

please help me out.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated
