Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded - several java virtual machines

Could someone please help me???? I keep getting the following error messages:

++Java runtime environment cannot be loaded. Several java virtual machines running in the same process caused an error.++

I have no other java applications running. I'm a full-time student and I need to fix this problem so that I can continue with my homework. I've tried deleting JRE and reinstalling but that didn't work. I tried deleting IE and reinstalling and that didn't work either. Any ideas???????
