Java JDBC drivers - Backward compatibility question.

840742Feb 17 2011 — edited Feb 17 2011
I am moving my java based web development environment to a machine that has Oracke 11g-Release 2 from a devellopment environment that used Oracle 9.

I have a question about backeard compatibility of JDBC drivers.
The application will be deployed on a server that runs Oracle 9.

The driver for that version was in a jar file ojdbc14_g.jar.
Apparently, that does not work with Oracle 11g.

I have three questions:
1) I found the download site for the drivers, but I don't know whidh flavor I should get - any suggestions?
2) Are the drivers backward compatible - are there drivers that work with 11g that will also work with 9?
3) If the drivers are not backward compatible, and I need to change to use 9g for my development environment, can 11g and 9 coexist on the same machine, or will I need to uninstall 11g?

Thanks.
