Java installation problems

When I try to install the latest JRE it says "Java (TM) update cannot retrieve version information from the targeted directory." Then it says "Error 1722. There is a problem with this windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected."

I tried re-installing and downloading java but nothing is working, i'm always getting the same message.

If anyone can help me fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your kindness.
