Java and PHP

Hello,
I am new to PHP and Java.. I searched for help but didn't find anything. Here is my problem,
I would like to get JAVA working with my PHP files. The only tutorial I found is this http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/marknold20001221.php3 but its not any help, it seems like its for an older version or something.
I have PHP running on apache 2. I have installed J2SE 1.4.2 , and installed it to the default directory. I seriously need to get this JAVA script working on my Server!!!
Please guys, if there is a tutorial out there that would help me or if someone could help me, I would reallllly appreciate it!
