Java 1.4/Win95 uninstall/install problems

I tried to uninstall java 1.4 from my machine using the Control Panel:Add/Remove Programs tool. The uninstall program asks me if I'm sure that I want to uninstall all components and then I click "Ok". Seemingly, the uninstall proceeds.

Now I would like to install java 1.4 on my computer again, so I launch the j2re-1_4_0-win.exe program on my computer. The installation program prompts me that Java 1.4 is already installed and asked me if I would like it removed. I click yes and then it proceeds the uninstall procedure again. Now I try to install it again and I get the same prompt again. So right now I'm stuck. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
