J2SE Runtime V5 Update 6 - ActiveX Control Download Problem
843804Sep 9 2006 — edited Jun 3 2009We use Windows XP Home and get the red cross in the white box showing when trying to view some pictures in emails and on the Internet. We particularly want to access one site for my daughters school work which uses Java and has a link to Java download. When we select the download, the yellow bar appears and we follow the directions:
"We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine.
If you encounter an error, check the top of the browser (see image above) for a yellow bar that reads "This site might require the following ActiveX control: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc.'. Click here to install..." Click the yellow bar and choose "Install ActiveX Control..." to allow installation to proceed."
We click for install and nothing happens. We have checked our security settings and both Java and Windows Help but have not been able to get to the bottom of the problem. We are running Zone Alarm and Norton Anti-Virus and have made Java 'trusted' but still no luck.
Any ideas?! Thank you in advance.
