j2sdk 1.4.1_03 installation fails on Win2000

I'm attempting to install j2sdk 1.4.1_03 on my windows 2000 machine, but I get the following error message during install:

You already have the Java 2 SDK, SE v1.4.1_01 installed on this machine. Would you like to install it? OK CANCEL

I click OK and it quickly flashes thru a deinstall window because there is no other version already installed. I've deinstalled all other sdk and jre versions. I stepped thru the Sun's trouble shooting procedure and even carefully went thru the registry.

I'm thinking there's a dll file or a registry file somewhere that wasn't removed and the installer is running into it.

Has anyone else run into this problem?? I think I might be losing my mind!
