J2ME compiling

Any time I try to compile a MIDP application (I tested with the hello-world sample from Sun in the Forte IDE), I get the following Error: [0:0] Cannot compile. Preverify Compiler uses an invalid emulator.

Any hints as to what this means and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much,
