Issue While starting the Oracle Database

Dear All,

I am getting the below error while starting the database:

We are using VMware and the database version is 11.2.0.3

$ sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Thu Oct 24 10:21:10 2013

Connected to an idle instance.

SQL> startup nomount

ORA-10997: another startup/shutdown operation of this instance inprogress

ORA-09969: unable to close or remove lock file

Linux-x86_64 Error: 30: Read-only file system

ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file

Linux-x86_64 Error: 30: Read-only file system

Additional information: 9925

SQL>

Please let me know how to go forward ?..

Is this issue related to Oracle or OS VMware ?..
