Is XE really safe for running on the Internet?
583231Oct 23 2007 — edited Jan 22 2008We've got a web application to deploy on the Internet. It is a small application, with only a couple of hundred users and we've looked at MySQL on Linux to drive it. I've pushed against that, looking at the Oracle Standard release at least. The margin doesn't really support that, so I was looking at XE. Problem is, I'm a little worried putting this on the Internet.
Ideally, the app would be written in Apex, open on port 80 and run out of XE DB. The size makes XE perfect, but our client is worried about the security. Now, I have read about the issue with patches. I apply quarterly Oracle patches to other databases and I know when those are released they won't be released for XE. So, that is one concern. Are there any others I should be aware of? Do have users used XE on the Internet? (I've had people telling MySQL is...) So, would others feel safe putting this on the Internet???
Thanks all.
