is 'RRRRMMDD' AND 'YYYYMMDD' both are same

hi all,
my requirement is like, the data should be in the format 'yyyymmdd'
in some cases i found the data involved with the 19's so i have used the format mask as 'rrrrmmdd' is in any cases these formats are different(leads to different output).or both are same.
Please share with me..
