Is Oracle ADF still a viable option for new development projects?

We use old old old (old) Oracle Designer and slowwwwwwly coming around to adopting new technology. Oracle ADF + JDeveloper was the direction of choice, but now it's been kicked to the curb - because (supposedly) "Oracle isn't using ADF for any new development". Is this true? Is ADF still a viable option (now and for the long run)?

I googled this and didn't find anything that indicated it was on the way out, or not preferred, etc. My knowlegeable Oracle buddy and a post on Experts-Exchange got the same result - no one's heard it's not viable. On Oracle's site it still sits tall, best as I can tell.

So is it fine to adopt this as a long term technology direction? For your basic enterprise development of a traditional web-based data entry system - nothing too fancy ==> data in, data out, plus some reports.
