Is an Oracle Client necessary to connect an OBIEE installation
I have a customer that has OBIEE installed and connected to a DB2 database. Now they want to connect to an App's Ebusiness database.
Question: Do I have to install an Oracle client on the OBIEE server host (windows) to connect to my Oracle database?
I ask this question because it seems to me that this is an Oracle installation and it would naturally come with some sort of connectivity to Oracle, but the consultant that installed OBIEE said I need to install an Oracle client on the OBIEE server.
Do I need to install an Oracle Client to connect OBIEE to an Oracle database?
From the OBIEE installation directions:
Oracle provides ODBC and JDBC client drivers so that third-party software products can connect as
SQL clients to the Oracle Business Intelligence Server. Although many clients such as Microsoft
Access and Business Objects can be used, Oracle has not explicitly certified particular clients.
Client interfaces ODBC 2.0 and 3.5 and JDBC 2.0 and 2.1 that use SQL92 or higher are supported
for this purpose.
The Oracle Business Intelligence Server ODBC driver supports ODBC 3.5 applications for UTF-16
character set for read-only access. Oracle Business Intelligence Server JDBC driver supports JDBC
2.0/2.1 API clients or applications for read-only access.
