We are excited to announce the availability of DenseIO Virtual Machines (VM), a new high performance instance with large local storage, backed by the latest generation Non Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) Solid State Drives (SSD). The DenseIO VM compute shape for Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services (BMCS) is ideal for large databases and big-data workloads, like Apache Spark and Hadoop, which have demanding performance and large physical storage requirements. DenseIO VMs are available in multiple shapes including 4, 8 and 16 OCPUs allowing you to customize compute resources for your I/O and storage bound applications.

Last October, we announced the General Availability of Bare Metal (BM) compute DenseIO instances delivering up to 4 million random IOPS at 4KB block size with locally attached NVMe SSDs. Each of the new DenseIO VMs offers a dedicated NVMe disk per 4 cores to ensure the best possible performance for your applications. The new DenseIO VMs offer up to 1.8 million random IOPS at 4KB block size. With the availability of DenseIO VMs, you can now select the right combination of compute and high-performance ephemeral storage for your applications. This is ideal for applications that do not require an entire bare metal server. You can also add ephemeral storage to existing bare metal or Standard VM compute shapes by generating a custom image and using it to launch a new DenseIO VM.

You can use DenseIO VMs with all operating systems available on Oracle BMCS today including:

• Ubuntu 16.04
• CentOS 6 and 7
• Oracle Linux 6
• Oracle Linux 7
• Windows Server 2012 R2
