Interpreting verbose:gc Output

843811Jan 3 2002 — edited Jan 4 2002

When you run a java process under AIX you can specify a parameter that looks like this:

-verbose:gc

It shows all activity around the expansion and compression of the heap as objects are created and garbage collected. The problem I am having now is exactly how to read it all. Some of it is obvious but some is not. Does anyone know how to and/or know where to get details on how to read it? The idea to reading through one of these is to determine your optimal heap min and max size.

Any help any of you can provide is appreciated.
