Interconnect - Infiniband or 10Gb ethernet?

657156Dec 2 2009 — edited Dec 4 2009
I'm setting up a new cluster and trying to get a real idea of what the performance differences are using IB versus 10Gb ethernet for interconnect. I think the consensus is that IB has lower latency and faster bandwidth and will scale better - but does anyone have real numbers to back this up? What kind of workload would most stress the interconnect and thus reveal differences in interconnect speed?

I'm surprised that neither oracle nor any of the vendors courting the rac market have whitepapers out detailing TPC benchmarks or something just focusing on interconnect differences. Or is the interconnect just not significant relevant to other factors (I/O?)

thanks in advance
