INSTEAD OF TRIGGER

Hi all,

I'm trying to create an INSTEAD OF (UPDATE) trigger on a table (VMS OS, ORACLE 8i v. 8.1.7.1.0 - Production), but i'm getting such error:

ORA-25002: cannot create INSTEAD OF triggers on tables

Message is clear, but I knew it was possible to do that and not only on views...

Am I wrong or what else am I missing?
