Instance crash after asm rebalance

Database version and ASM Version is 11.1.0.7
I ran out of space on one our databases. So two LUNS were added and we added them to be part of our asm diskgroup.
Eventhough this operatiion can be done online, I decided to bring down the applications and database and discovered these LUNS and added them to ASM diskgroup.
Now to speed up the rebalance, I increased the rebalance power to 4 and brought up the apps and database.
I noticed that after the rebalance was complete, ASM and Database crashed.
I brought up ASM and Database and things are fine afterwards.
My thought was that
Increasing the rebalance power crashed the instance. But it could be also that after rebalance was complete the instance crashed (meaning even if I did not increase the rebalance power, instance would have crashed with power =1).

Have any of you experienced these kind of issues with rebalance when adding disks?
