Installing SQL*Plus 8i on XP computer

DevGuyOct 26 2006 — edited Oct 31 2006
All:

All, I have Oracle 8i personal edition installed on a Window 98 home computer.

I would like to be able to use SQL*Plus from another computer at home which is Windows XP Pro, to connect to the DB on the Win98 computer. However i am having trouble installing SQL*Plus from the 8i Personal edition onto this computer...I get the error ""Invalid staging area. There are no top level components" So i guess i can't use this version of SQL*Plus from 8i on Win XP...Is there a way around this error?

or should i try to get a newer version of SQL*Plus?..What version of SQL*Plus do I need to get to be able to install on this computer without installing the whole DB.

I have set up the Listener and the Net Service Name on the Win98 computer with the DB and they are both working. After installing Sql*Plus on the XP computer is there anything else i need to do to make things work?

Can someone please advise

Thanks in advance,
George
