Installing Oracle 9i on Redhat LINUX 9

have a questions, as I am new with Oracle/LINUX. When installing Oracle on Redhat Linux, can you run the installation directly on the server or must you run it from a client PC? Also, I installed the Oracle install files to there own directories on the server. i.e. Disk1,Disk2,Disk3. Can I run the install if I have i have copied the files to the server?
