Installing new printer, think I need to update the HPLIP package?

craig h - oracleJun 16 2012 — edited Jun 16 2012
I just added a new HP officejet 6500A Plus wireless printer to my home office.

I'm trying to install the printer to my OEL box
Linux xxx.xxx.com 2.6.18-194.8.1.0.1.el5xen #1 SMP Thu Jul 1 17:55:16 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The printer add dialog wasn't obvious ... was hoping to find a "network" option or something like in windows

Went to the HP site to see about print drivers for Linux, but the HPLIP site does not specify an OEL version of their software.

When I tried to download the RPM for Red Hat, and let the software installer run from the download it fails.

When I run Up2date, there is no HPLIP package listed.

I'm probably going down all the wrong roads here... Is there a more specific approach I should be taking?

thanks
