Installing Java

843798May 19 2008 — edited May 21 2008
Hello,
I went here: www.java.com
To see what was there, as I was curious, I clicked Do I Have Java?
It said I do, but I had 1.6.0 while the recommended version was 6u5 or something.
I downloaded the Java from the www.java.com
Read the setup guide and got through the install succesfully.
I restarted FireFox to make sure all went well, and it still said I was on 1.6.0.
What is going on? How do I upgrade this? What version of Java did I try to install, JRE? I installed that JRE in /usr/java, and made the shortcuts, following the instructions to set it up.

I need some help here, thanks.
