Installing client: in dbhome_1 or client_1 ?

I am installing the Oracle client on the database 11GR2 server (HPUX). The manual says he Oracle Database Client can be installed in the same Oracle Database home if both products are at the same release level.
Is there an advantage or disadvantage to doing so? Maybe related to Patching, DBLinks, etc?
