Installation-Problem with Oracle9i and Redhat 9

394343May 9 2003 — edited Jul 17 2003
Hi folks,

I apparently have a small problem and hope to find help here :)

I'm trying to install Oracle 9i on RedHat Linux 9. The system I am using is the following:

Kernel 2.4.20-8
128 MB RAM
P3 600 MHz

After writing several scripts to initialize the system parameters (sem, shmmax, and so on) and create a temporary swapfile I then started the installation via X-Server. Until here no problem, but after Oracle collected all information needed for installation, and began to copy the files the system would try to install Java Runtime Environment, from where on it would no longer proceed. I let the comp. run last night, and this morning it still tried to install the README - for about 17 (!!) hours.

I guess I do have a problem here, but unfortunately no idea how to solve it :-(

Perhaps someone could help me here?

oh, and please forgive if I have forgotten or not yet mentioned any information that could be useful to any of you - I'm on apprenticement and this is first time with Oracle and Linux ...
so if any further information is needed, just say so :-)

Regards from Germany
