Installation of Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1 Personal onto Windows 2000

skier_daveOct 28 2007
I am trying to install Oracle 9i (version 9.2.0.1) Personal onto a Windows 2000 box. (As a side note, I would actually like to install it onto a Windows 2003 Server box but I think I read it doesn't work?)

I have Windows 2000 Server running as a virtual machine (VMWare) on a Windows Server 2003 box. I am remotely connecting to the Windows Server 2003 box via Remote Desktop (with the /console option) and then running the virtual machine from there.

I am running the installation from the ./autorun/autorun.exe and the initial dialog box pops up just fine. When I click on the 'Install / Deinstall' button, I get a dialog box that pops up and says "Could not load the Java virtual machine. Program will exit!"

I have also tried a Windows XP Professional virtual machine with the exact same results.

FWIW, I also tried running the installation on my gaming machine (Windows XP Professional) and the installation went forward without a hitch.

Any ideas why the installation can't load the Java VM?

Thanks!

Ken
