Installation of java 1.6.31 on a sun solaris 8

I have installed java, the last version, on a sun solaris 8 and I'm not sure if it is well installed.
If I enter java -version it shows me the right version installed but if I try to use an application developed with java it gives me an error like:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError.
