install RHEL 2.1 in VMware for Oracle 9i

i used vmware 5.5 to install RHEL 2.1.. after installation is complete, i reboot the system, but i cannot go to the desktop.. i stucked at the terminal that said:

Red Hat Linux Advanced Server release 2.1AS/i686 (Pensacola)
eric login: _

i can login to root and used the terminal, but cannot go to the desktop... a insert "startx" command, but return an error.

i skip the X configuration while installing RHEL --> doesn't work..

i configure the X configuration with my laptop video card spec --> doesn't work...

what should i do?? what is the video card of the vmware??
