Install error 2753: regutils

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and am trying to update my Java JRE. I keep receiving a message that says

'This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it? YES or NO (buttons)"

When I click YES to uninstall the software, the Windows Installer starts, and then I receive an error window:

Java(TM) 6 Update 14
Internal Error 2753. regutils.dll

I am unable to install or uninstall the software.
