install 12c client on network drive - correct oracle home/base location?

GlenStromMar 8 2017 — edited Mar 14 2017

I am trying to install 12.1.0.2 client on a network drive. The windows users on this site use a network installed client instead of having it deployed to their desktops.

I unzipped the client files to the network drive, then run the setup.exe as administrator from the client directory.  When I try to point the location to the network drive for the location for the oracle software files I get an error that it's an invalid oracle home.

I have a local copy of Oracle 12c installed (on my workstation), and the oracle base and software location defaults to the local location in OUI, and I get INS-32015 errors if I try and change the location to the network drive where I want them to install.

I have even set the variables oracle_base and oracle_home to point at the network location and ran the setup.exe from the same command session, but to no avail.

This is the first time I have seen where they use a client on a network drive rather than on a workstation, so I must be missing something here.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance
