Inserting into CLOB column from textarea

Krishna Rathnam-OracleMay 18 2009 — edited Apr 26 2011
Hello people,

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to insert data greater than 4000 chars from a textarea into a clob column. Although CLOB does support a bigger data size, the page throws an error when the content in the textarea exceeds 4000 chars for obvious reasons. The insert into the clob column happens through an after submit pl/sql block.

We do have an option for users to upload files but users are more interested in being able to copy paste large volume of data into the text area so that they can be searched upon through the search screen we've provided for this clob column.

Including search functionality thru dbms_lob.instr is an alternative we are looking at but just curious to know if there is a workaround for insert from textarea into a clob column for data exceeding 4000 chars.

Appreciate your help.

Regards
Krishna
