Insert 50 million rows

Hi Experts

How can I insret 50 million rows to a table and control my script (how many rows it has inserted till now) in any time and speed it up? I'm ussing append hint and paralellism. What value should paralellism has? I made it 8, 16, even 32. But no result
My insert query just hangs up and I don't know what happens

Database - 10gR1
OS - RedHat 5
