Oracle Forms

Hello.
I have a problem with initial value when new record is inserted.
When my form opens i can do two things - i can insert new record or ent/exe query.
When i insert new record i want to display default value in one item. I can do that with when-new-record-instance trigger. But when i use that trigger i can't run ent/exe query.
Is there a way to ent/exe query although the trigger is in use. Or is there another way - when i use ent/exe query, default value disappears.
